FAQS FOR EDUCATORS WORKSHOP

Part 1: General Information


  1. Q: Who should take this Workshop?

    A: Secondary school teachers who are teaching film/film-related subjects (such as English and Chinese language and literature, liberal studies and visual arts) should take this Workshop. Those who are interested in using film as a medium of teaching and who are interested to know more about the basics of film as an art form would also benefit the most from this Workshop.
  2. Q: I am not a current/full-time teacher. Am I eligible to apply?

    A: Yes. However, priority will be given to current secondary school teachers and students from educational institutions aiming to obtain a teaching qualification for secondary school education.
  3. Q: What is the content of the Workshop?

    A: This Workshop provides a broad introduction to the study of film as an art form. We will explore the concepts of film form, aesthetics and style, while remaining attentive to the cultural and historical context in which a work is produced and seen. Throughout the Workshop, we will examine closely the construction of sight and sound through various modes of organizing these core elements. In each session, a film will be shown in full after the initial lecture, followed by discussions with dedicated critics and scholars.
  4. Q: What language will the Workshop be conducted in?

    A: The Workshop will be conducted in Cantonese. All films selected to be screened will be subtitled in either Chinese or English.
  5. Q: What time and how often is the Workshop?

    A: The Workshop will take place on alternate Saturday afternoons from 2:30pm to 7:00pm for approximately 4.5 hours (270-minutes), including a lecture plus film screening and discussion, for a total of 12 sessions.
  6. Q: Where does the Workshop take place?

    A: 2013 Class A will take place at Hong Kong Design Institute. Address: 3 King Ling Road, Tseung Kwan O, N.T., H.K. 2013 Class B takes place at the Hong Kong Film Archive. Address: Viewing room in Resource Center, Hong Kong Film Archive at 50 Lei King Road, Sai Wan Ho, Hong Kong. (MAP).
  7. Q: Must I attend all sessions?

    A: We strongly advise the candidates to attend all sessions to gain the most out of the Workshop. A HK$2,000 security deposit is required upon admission. A minimum attendance rate of 10 out of 12 sessions is required for a 100% refund by the end of the Workshop. For candidates who have not completed 10 sessions, the deposit will not be refunded.
  8. Q: Can someone else attend the Workshop sessions in my place?

    A: No.

 

Part 2: Application


  1. Q: What is the timeline for application?

    Application period of 2013 Class B is from 22 March 2013 to 19 May2013.
  2. Q: How can I apply?

    A: To apply for the Workshop you must complete the online application form.
  3. Q: How do I know if my application form has been received?

    A: An immediate confirmation page will be shown on your computer screen upon successful online application. For applications by email, fax or post, we will send you a confirmation of receipt via email upon receiving the application form within 10 working days. If you do not receive a confirmation of receipt, please check your email address or write to us at jcca@hkiff.org.hk

 

Part 3: Interview


  1. Q: What is the interview for?

    A: As the Workshop will only admit a maximum of 15 students per class free of charge, we want to make sure the selected candidates are devoted to film and education and would bring what they have learnt from us to their students.
  2. Q: Will all the applicants be interviewed?

    A: No. Only selected applicants will be invited. Notifications will be sent to the selected candidates via email.
  3. Q: When will the interview take place?

    A: For 2013 Class B, the selected candidates will be notified by1 Jun 2013, and the interview will take place in June.
  4. Q: What should I expect for the interview? How can I prepare?

    A: The interview will last approximately 20 minutes and will be conducted in-person. The purpose of the interview is to let us know more about you and your teaching experiences with films. Be relaxed and come as you are!
  5. Q: What language will the interview be conducted in?

    A: The interview will be conducted in Cantonese.
  6. Q: When will I be notified of the result?

    A: The interview result will be notified via email within two weeks from the interview.

 

Part 4: Fee and Deposit


  1. Q: Do I need to pay any fee for application and tuition?

    A: No application and tuition fee will be required. We offer the Workshop FREE to the selected candidates. A HK$2,000 security deposit is required upon admission. A minimum attendance rate of 10 out of 12 sessions is required for a 100% refund by the end of the Workshop. The purpose for the deposit is to secure the selected participants to attend the Workshop without wasting the chance for others. For candidates who fail to complete a minimum of 10 sessions, the deposit will be forfeited.
  2. Q: How do I pay the deposit?

    A: We accept payments in the following methods:

  3. Q: When will I receive my deposit back?

    A: Within 14 working days from the last Workshop session.
  4. Q: Can I get back the deposit if the Workshop is cancelled?

    A: Yes. You can receive a full refund if the Workshop is cancelled. Please note that the deposit will not be refunded if a participant withdraws from the Workshop without attending 10 sessions.
