Youth Volunteer Programme

Get involved and be an essential part of Asia's most important film events!

The Youth Volunteer Programme (the Programme) is a training programme for young people in Hong Kong to be future leaders, programmers and arts administrators for a thriving arts and cultural environment. The Programme will introduce volunteers to the programming, marketing and operations of Asia's leading film events, including the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) and the Summer International Film Festival (SIFF). Selected young volunteers will be given the rare opportunity to participate in “behind-the-scenes” of the HKIFF and the film industry.

Volunteers will be trained in transferable skills and rewarded with a wealth of film knowledge, unique experiences and a chance to make some great friends.

Eligibility

Applicants must be students aged between 15 and 25

Currently enrolled in a FULL-TIME course offered by an acceptable institution in Hong Kong

Proficient in Cantonese and English; knowledge in foreign languages is definitely an advantage

Applicants with outstanding performance during trainings may be chosen to take a team leader role

Schedule

The HKIFFS is always on a look out for passionate and dedicated individuals to volunteer year-round in Hong Kong

Applicants are required to assist in all areas of the 36th HKIFF from December 2011 to mid April 2012, whilst for the SIFF will be held in July to August 2012

Commitment

Applicants are required to attend four (4) training sessions offered by the HKIFFS before taking practicum, the training will be held in late October or early November 2011. The exact date will be announced later

Applicants should committed to volunteer for around 30 hours before and during the Film Festivals, the shifts will be based on the actual operation needs and mostly in 4-6 hour per session

Be professionally trained. Through a series of training workshops and practicum, volunteers will be equipped with knowledge and skills to support the running of large-scale cultural events

Receive an attendance certificate when the required training courses and a minimum of 30 service hours are completed with satisfactory performance

Service Area

Volunteers will be assigned for practicum in the following departments during the Film Festivals:

Marketing

Support the preparation and distribution of various kinds of marketing materials e.g. press releases, electronic direct mailers (eDMs), sponsorship proposals, invitation letters etc.

Assist in the distribution and packing of marketing materials such as booking folders, welcome kits, souvenirs, event photographs etc.

Assist in the co-ordination of festival promotion materials

Assist in media accreditation and film ticket redemption

Support the coordination of marketing events such as gala premieres, press conferences and junkets

Assist in the update and generation of publicity through various digital platforms such as community and official websites, blogs etc.

Operations

Assist the smooth operations of gala film events, luncheons, parties, cocktails, screenings etc.

Accompany Festival guests to/from airport, accommodation, screening venues, interviews and events

Support Festival guest travel coordination and any special requests such as dietary needs or translators required

Assist in administration, such as technical issues and prepare the logistic work for online ticketing

Handle the accreditation card application, production and distribution, as well as souvenirs selling at the Hospitality & Media Suite

Provide courteous assistance at the Catalogue Redemption

Programming

Support the preparation and proof-reading work of various kinds of publications, e.g. the booking folder, house programmes, tribute publications, newsletters etc.

Assist in screening Festival submissions and selection for programming

Assist in coordinating of film traffic

Research for editorial, scheduling and screening purposes

Assist in coordinating and conduct surveys with attendees of Festival Tours, Master Class and Face to Face

Provide support and coordination in the Educators Workshop
